About Us

We are the members of the India topcops e-group. We are serving and retired Indian Police Service Officers. We have been meeting over the Net for the last four years and more and came together on the social network for the first time on 24th July 2005. The current membership is 1513 plus and is growing.

When we formed this group meant for exchanges between the current or former members of the Indian Police Service, we were inspired by the famous lines penned by Shri Rabindranath Tagore titled "Where The Mind is Without Fear”

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake"

These words inspirational as they are, helped in the formation and growth of the e-group and now the time has come when the social network is poised to leverage Information and Communication Technologies to the best advantage to bring about the much needed police reforms in the country.

Every one is seeking Police Reforms and these reforms have to be holistic- the criminal Justice system as a whole needs reforms. We need managerial reforms, technological reforms, structural reforms, legal reforms, financial reforms and above all attitudinal reforms. So reforms have to start from within first and we are committed to facilitate these reforms in the Police by joining hands together. As some police men are out on a beat patrol on their cycles from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari- on a month long cycling endeavour, we make our appearance on the world wide web, to show that police reforms will be all pervasive from addressing the issues faced by the cycling police man on his beat in the remotest part of the country to the cyber age where thought travels at the speed of light to show that world has indeed shrunk.

The challenges faced by the policemen in India today functioning 24X7 under the constant media glare, could be seen from the following news report put out by the Initiator of this group when the e-group was started in July 2005. The news report as it appeared in the media four years ago has assumed further relevance by the subsequent events culminating in the observance of the first anniversary of the Mumbai incidents of 26/11/2008.
